Privacy Policy for Funny Reader
Last Updated: November 22, 2024
Overview
Funny Reader (“the Extension”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This privacy policy explains how the Extension handles data.
Data Collection
We do NOT collect, store, or transmit any personal data.
The Extension:
- Does NOT track your browsing history
- Does NOT collect personal information
- Does NOT use analytics or tracking services
- Does NOT transmit any data to external servers
- Does NOT share any information with third parties
Local Storage
The Extension uses Chrome’s local storage API to store:
- Toggle State: Whether the extension is enabled or disabled
- Donation Banner Timing: Timestamp of when the donation banner was last shown (to ensure it only appears once per 24 hours)
This data:
- Is stored ONLY on your device
- Is NOT transmitted anywhere
- Is NOT accessible to us or anyone else
- Can be cleared by removing the extension
Permissions
The Extension requests the following permission:
- Storage: Used to remember your enable/disable preference and donation banner display timing
The Extension does NOT request permissions for:
- Browsing history
- Personal data
- Network access for data transmission
- Cross-site tracking
Donation Banner
The Extension includes an optional donation banner with a link to Buy Me a Coffee (buymeacoffee.com).
How it works:
- It uses local storage to track when it was last shown (to ensure it only appears once per 24 hours).
- It checks the current website domain against a local whitelist to ensure it doesn’t appear on sensitive sites (like search engines or documentation).
- No browsing history is collected or transmitted to make this decision. It happens entirely in your browser.
Third-Party Link:
- The banner contains a simple link to
buymeacoffee.com.
- Clicking this link opens the Buy Me a Coffee website in a new tab.
- Once you visit Buy Me a Coffee, you are subject to their privacy policy and terms of service.
- We do not share any data with Buy Me a Coffee automatically.
Content Modification
The Extension modifies text content on web pages you visit by adding emojis to certain words. This modification:
- Happens entirely in your browser
- Does NOT send page content anywhere
- Does NOT store what you’re reading
- Is completely local to your device
Whitelisted Domains
The Extension automatically disables itself on certain domains (search engines, documentation sites, educational resources) to avoid interfering with your work. The list of whitelisted domains:
- Is stored in the extension code
- Does NOT report which sites you visit
- Simply prevents the extension from running on those sites
Children’s Privacy
The Extension does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children under 13. Since no data is collected at all, there are no special considerations for children’s data.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected in the “Last Updated” date above. Continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
